Letter From the Founders: Welcome to Ringtone!

We’re so excited to welcome you to our grand abode that is Ringtone! But before we introduce the brand, we should probably introduce ourselves. Writing to you right now is none other than the two founders of Ringtone, Amelia and Zoe, two Chicagoland teens who’ve been friends for years now, even working on the high school newspaper together. Our baptism into the hyperpop/PC Music scene happened when we saw Dorian Electra together this past February. We were immediately enamored, and have been sinking deeper and deeper into the quicksand pit of the genre. Don’t get it twisted, though. We wouldn’t have it any other way.

In June, we started talking about founding a publication based around the community these artists have created. After traversing an ocean and a half of wild name ideas (R.I.P. Apeshit23, you will be missed), we finally settled on Ringtone. It’s not only the name of one of our favorite songs by 100 gecs, but also a reference to the online collaboration that thrives in the hyperpop scene. It seems that pop and electronic musicians rarely get together to collaborate nowadays, instead communicating digitally, emailing files back and forth and calling to discuss songs. Even within Ringtone, our team from all across the country collaborates remotely through group chats.

So, after months of designing, writing, editing, and driving to the 100 gecs tree, we’re finally ready to bring you Ringtone, an inclusive magazine that covers innovative pop and electronic musicians as well as the community that their music has sparked. We hope you love it as much as we do!

All our love,

Amelia Zollner & Zoe Axelrod 💜
